His artwork, which depicted the imprisonment and torture he experienced during his incarceration, was confiscated by the U.S. military. Rabbani’s human rights lawyer, Clive Stafford Smith, saw these paintings in legal meetings with him, anticipated their confiscation, and wrote textual descriptions of each piece. His artwork, which depicted the imprisonment and torture he experienced during his incarceration, was confiscated by the U.S. military. Rabbani’s human rights lawyer, Clive Stafford Smith, saw these paintings in legal meetings with him, anticipated their confiscation, and wrote textual descriptions of each piece. Collaborating with Smith, twelve Pakistani artists responded to the text to challenge this censorship. ‘Duality’ is my response to two of the texts describing Rabbani’s paintings.
